Laura Ezell (Class of 2002)

Laura Ezell

After earning my bachelor's degree in Anthropology with a minor in Chemistry from USA in 2002, I discovered a passion for education that led me to pursue a Master's degree in Early Childhood and Elementary Education at UAB, which I completed in 2005. I began my career teaching preschool, kindergarten, and first grade, where I developed a deep appreciation for the foundational years of learning. Driven by a desire to support students more effectively, I pursued a second Master's degree in Elementary Reading Education with an emphasis on curriculum and instruction. This specialization allowed me to serve as a reading interventionist for grades K-3, where I worked closely with young learners to build essential literacy skills.

After several years in the K-12 system, I transitioned into higher education and joined Jefferson State Community College in 2017. I currently serve as the Student Loan Specialist, where I support students in navigating the financial aspects of their education. My background in Anthropology continues to influence my work, helping me understand the diverse cultural and personal experiences that shape each student’s educational journey.

Throughout my career, I have remained committed to fostering equitable learning environments and supporting students at every stage of their academic paths. My interdisciplinary background and hands-on experience in both early childhood and higher education have equipped me with a unique perspective on how to meet students where they are and help them succeed.
